BOMA International published its first “Standard Methods of Floor Measurement” for office buildings in 1915. In 2009, BOMA published the Gross Areas Standard (Gross Areas of a Building: Standard Methods of Measurement, ANSI/BOMA Z65.3—2009) in direct response to requests made to BOMA International to develop floor measurement standards for forms of occupancy other than office buildings. BOMA 2018 Gross Areas: Standard Methods of Measurement (ANSI/BOMA Z65.3—2018) is the first update to the gross areas standard.
